Why I Started Writing Music (and Why I’ll Never Stop)

A Beginning That Chose Me

The truth is, I didn’t start making music because I thought I could.

I started because something inside me said I had to.

Later in Life, but Right on Time

For years, music was something I listened to, not something I lived. I came to songwriting later in life, long after the age when most people chase big dreams or pack their lives into vans and tour across the country. I didn’t have a roadmap or a timeline. What I had was a guitar, a lifetime of stories, and a feeling in my bones that wouldn’t leave me alone.

That feeling became my first song. Then another. And eventually, an entire album.

Letting Go of Waiting

People ask me what made me finally do it—what made me pick up that guitar and start writing. The answer is simple: I got tired of waiting for permission. I got tired of pushing music to the edges of my life, like it was something extra instead of something essential.

Music is How I Live

So I chose it. I chose music. I chose to be fully in it.

Not because I thought it would be perfect or easy or polished—but because it’s mine. It’s how I make sense of the world. It’s how I connect with people I’ve never met, and how I honor the ones I’ve loved and lost.

Every song I write is a piece of my story, but more than that—it’s a way to say you’re not alone.

This is My Why

If you’ve ever picked up a dream that waited patiently for years…
If you’ve ever needed a song to say what you couldn’t say out loud…
If you’ve ever felt like it was finally time to stop holding back…

Then we already understand each other.

This is my why.
Thanks for listening.
